The road ahead, walked a little farther

An accounting, then, of the three things that remained when this paper first stopped.
The grant panel shipped. A grant is a click now — a share sheet, a rail, a finished panel that shows exactly who holds each collection — and the library itself can grant and revoke when asked aloud, behind the same owner's gate as the hand that clicks. Sharing at the speed of conversation.
The door is open. The page you may be reading this on is served from the node itself, through the nine named paths, drilled in the dark and found true. The rented spare hangs under the mat.
The join is built. The minter waits on one final notch in a console — the keyholder's single power, switched on — and then a member's beginning costs nothing at all.
Two things remain, and we will not pretend them done. The last cloud dependency: identity still leans on a rented sky, and the build that brings it home is unwritten. And federation — though its first wire is now real: a node asked about a sibling no longer receives a shrug. It receives an observation — the name resolved, the endpoint answered or stayed silent, when, from where, how it was measured — the difference between dark and dark because, which is the difference between a wall and a window. When the first two forests hold hands, they will already know how to speak.
And one thing is about to happen, which is why this passage is being written at a workbench late at night instead of in the quiet of a finished thing: on a home wireless network, there is a fresh machine that has never met any of this. Tomorrow it receives an invitation. It will download, claim, join, and belong — the whole path, walked end to end for the first time, with nothing rented in the middle and no step a member should have had to take.
When that walk completes, this paper stops being a paper. It becomes a map of ground already walked — which is what we said it would become, and the only promise in it that was ever allowed to remain unfound.
